The “Buildings of Droitwich” Ceramic Mural restoration progression

Thanks to funding from the National Lottery, Wychavon District Council and Droitwich Town Council the Droitwich Arts Network have reached the halfway stage to restoring Droitwich Spa’s national treasure. This colourful and intricate work of art has been removed from the shopping centre wall in order to replace broken ceramic relief’s and to strengthen the panels. Good progress is being made at the ‘Black Dog’ factory where the mural was originally made 42 years ago by artist Philippa Threlfall.

Over the last two months artists have been designing art work to fill the gap on the wall left by removal of the mural. This has now been completed as shown below.

The ‘large’ 13 ft x 5 ft 6 ins wall gap has now been filled with 52 panels; 28 panels of which are works of art supplied by: six local schools with 12 panels; 2 panels supplied from the NHS Orchard Service; one each from two local young children and the other 12 panels from local artists. The panels will be removed when the restored mural is ready to be replaced. Everyone will be invited to the unveiling ceremony, which will be held some time in the spring.
