‘Karen Moore Award’ for creative writing

This competition aims to promote intelligent and creative writing amongst the students of years 10-13 at Droitwich Spa High School. Students will need to show: an understanding of an issue or a theme; an ability to research information as necessary and put forward effectively realised arguments.  The award will be made every summer term.

Students can respond to the title as they see fit.  The title will change every year.  Entries should be a minimum of 1000 words: there is no upper limit.  Entries should be typed with each sheet having a name, year group and title of the work on it.

The title for 2019 is ‘Are all forms of protest acceptable?’

Entries should be made via email.  Your entry will be confirmed by return email: if you have not had a confirmation email within 48 hours, please speak to Mr Izod.  The deadline is midnight on Monday, July 1st.

The judging panel will comprise Helen Karakashian from the Droitwich Arts Network and Mrs Karen Moore, ex-Deputy Head Teacher. They will then pass their chosen entries to the final judge, Jack Solloway, ex DSHS pupil who is now a freelance writer who has written for The London Magazine, The Stage Review, The Play’s The Thing UK and The Times newspaper.

The prize will be a trophy to keep for a year and a cash prize of £100.  The trophy has been kindly donated by Mrs Moore. The cash prize is kindly sponsored by the Droitwich Arts Network. The prize will be awarded in the last week of the summer term.
