The unveiling of the ceramic mural “Buildings of Droitwich”

Thanks to funding from the National Lottery, Wychavon District Council and Droitwich Town Council the Droitwich Arts Network have reached a stage to organise an unveiling ceremony for the restored Droitwich Spa’s national treasure. This colourful and intricate work of art had been removed from the St Andrew’s shopping centre wall in order to replace broken ceramic relief’s and to strengthen the panels. The ‘Black Dog’ Studio where the mural was originally made 43 years ago by artist Philippa Threlfall has now fixed a date for the replacement of the restored mural.

So the unveiling ceremony will take place at 4.30 pm on Wednesday 17th April. Since November 2018, artists have produced art work to fill the gap on the wall left by removal of the mural as shown below.

This colourful and intricate work of art has been removed from the shopping centre wall in order to replace broken ceramic relief’s and to strengthen the panels. Good progress is being made at the ‘Black Dog’ factory where the mural was originally made 42 years ago by artist Philippa Threlfall.

Over the last two months artists have been designing art work to fill the gap on the wall left by removal of the mural. This has now been completed as shown below.
