ArtsFest 2017 summary

The summary of very successful ArtsFest 2017 was written by the organiser Rhys Jones. It collects information about all events that have been organised during three weeks of the festival, day by day. Also, it has a list of sponsors and grants that helped the Artsfest to happen. The text is accompanied by photographs taken by Rhys and other local photographers.

DAN exhibition in Droitwich Library

The exhibition of Droitwich Arts Network members in the Library is the last event of the ArtsFest 2017. The exhibition was organised with the open call to all full DAN members and groups to submit their works in any 2D technique.

The exhibition is set up on 1 August with 43 artworks by 24 local artists. The selection included watercolours and acrylic paintings, pencils and coloured pencils drawings, pastels, photography and textiles. The visitors appreciated mostly this variety in techniques and styles and we have received very positive and supportive comments.

ArtsFest 2017 – Art and photography

The last part of the 3-week long ArtsFest was predominately about the visual arts and photography. Artist-in-residence programme in the library is a great opportunity for local artists, members of Droitwich Arts Network, to show their artistic skills and have a chat with the library visitors.

Artist-in-residence in the library: Droitwich Camera Club

On 29 July, Peter |Hawkins, Rosie Philpott and Droitwich Camera Club members were leading Art Walk and Photo Walk. Both events have been open to all interested in art and photography –  novices, learners and experts. It was a quite new experience to all but turned to be a great success.

ArtsFest 2017 – A literature weekend

The second weekend of Droitwich ArtsFest was all dedicated to poetry and words. On 22 July, the day started with the poetry reading at 11am on the St Andrew’s Square.  ‘Pens and Needles’ writers’ group from Redditch performed in front of the Meetbox.

The Poetry Extravaganza, with its 5th year at Park’s Café,  is a well-established event in Droitwich. On the evening of 22 July, Park’s Café was buzzing with poets and writers (Fergus Mc Gonigal, Nina Lewis, Maggie Doyle, Polly Stretton, Mike Alma, Amanda Bonnick, Sarah Leavesley, Jenna Plewes, Ruth Stacey, Leena Batchelor and Helen Calcutt) and the keen audience really enjoyed the evening. The literature event coordinator was Nina Lewis, Worcestershire Poet Laureate.
