Droitwich ArtsFest 2018 Ends

After four weeks and five weekends, Droitwich ArtsFest has ended after a fantastic month filled with a wide variety of artistic events.

The festival got off to a very hot start on 30th June with events taking place in the open air in brilliant sunshine. Following announcements by Droitwich Town Crier, Edgar Harwood, Droitwich Deputy Mayor, Councillor Bill Moy, and Nigel Huddleston MP, shoppers in St Andrews Square enjoyed an afternoon of dance including Belly Dancing, Salsa, and Zumba. That day was also the first day of a free art exhibition by members of Droitwich Arts Network (DAN) in the Gallery Room of Droitwich Library, together with the annual exhibition of International MailArt.

DAN celebrates successful Hanbury Hall exhibition

The magnificent and historic Hanbury Hall was the venue for the premier DAN exhibition of the year which was held again at this prestigious venue. This was a showcase for the best of local talent which was displayed in the Long Gallery   attracting large number of visitors.

Chairman of DAN Malcolm Wakeman was delighted with the success of this year’s event said:

“In access of 1000 people visited our six day exhibition to view the wonderful works that were on display. We were all delighted with the amount of interest shown by visitors and over the six days there were 77 transactions of paintings, cards and other art items. The annual DAN exhibition has become a favourite for the many visitors to the National Trust’s Hanbury Hall  and we look forward to holding the event again next year.”

SAA World Record Art Challenge

SAA World Record Art Challenge

Seven members of the Droitwich Art Society (DAS) has entered 32 original works of art for this challenge (see picture) which aims to get the nation painting. At the December meeting entries were completed, and during refreshments everybody took part in an Art Quiz.

The DAS meets the first Tuesday of the month 6.30 to 9.30 starting in February 2016 at Rotary House, new members are very welcome.

Paintings by Penny Dykes in Park’s Café

The exhibition of local artist Penny Dykes is on during October in Park’s café, Victoria Square. Penny exhibits 15 new watercolours and pastels, among them a lovely watercolours “My Kitchen Vase”, “Old Field Shelter, Elmbridge” and “The Flock”.

Penny Dykes began to paint on her retirement in 2003. Her inspiration comes from her interests and daily life. As a keen gardener, wildlife enthusiast, poultry and sheep keeper, she loves to tranfer flowers, animals and landscapes into her artworks.
