Over 2,000 new books in Planet Droitwich

Over 2,000 new books arrived in Planet Droitwich as a donation from one closed Birmingham’s bookshop. Even though Books For Free volunteers counted ‘only’ 500 copies today, it is clear that there are some very interesting titles. There is a book for everyone, from childrens’ fairy tales and young adult sci-fi novels to romance, thrillers and non-fiction books.

Among the new arrivals are numerous travel books and pocket travel guides, biographies and books about sport (horse riding, squash, cricket, golf, rugby, football, sailing, etc). Cooking books, encyclopedias, dictionaries, world classics, books on foreign languages (French, German, Italian, Russian…), magazines, poetry and all other genres can be found in Planet Droitwich. Finally, there is a quite good collection of DVDs and music CDs, as well as VHR tapes, that might be popular again (well, you never know!).

4 Shires music festival during Salt Fest

Music is always very important part of Droitwich festivals. The Salt Fest in September is not an exception. 4 Shires Festivals has prepared the music programme that will go for 3 days, on 11th, 12th and 13th September, in Vines Park in Droitwich Spa.

Festival visitors will have an opportunity to hear artists that appeared on BBC introducing special performances (the band Missing Sparrows and  solo artists Polly Edwards and Kim Ryder); Junction Seven Band that covers classical rock and pop hits; Indie trio The Capital Band; Stompin’ on Spiders’ who blends traditional blues with modern acoustic rock; acoustic guitarist, singer and songwriter Dan Greenaway and award-winning Roving Crows Band, just to name a few.

“Appointment with Death” in The Norbury Theatre

Appointment with DeathThe new production, “Appointment with Death” by Agatha Christie, is coming to The Norbury Theatre in September. An amateur production presented by The Norbury Players in association with SAMUEL FRENCH LTD

This year the theatre will be seeing a return to one of Agatha Christies classic murder mysteries. Originally published in the year 1938 Christie adapted the book as a play of the same name in 1945. It is notable for being one of the most radical reworkings of the novel Christie ever did, not only eliminating Hercule Poirot from the story, but also changing the ending of the story itself, meaning that even those familiar with the book might be in for a surprise.

It’s 1945 and Jerusalem’s King Solomon Hotel plays host to a party of visiting tourists. Among them is the Boynton family, headed by the elderly Mrs Boynton and accompanied by her loyal stepchildren, a young doctor and her colleague, the brash Alderman Higgs and the sophisticated Lady Westholme alongside her travel companion.
