The Droitwich area is home to a number of published novelists, poets and spoken word performers and has a history of actively promoting literature and spoken word in the area.

This includes regular live lit and spoken word events for the town’s festivals, particularly the summer arts festival, poetry displays in the town library, shops and art exhibitions, and a poet in residence for the 2011 festival arts exhibition in St Andrew’s Church.

DAN’s other literary aspects include a project with Hanbury Hall and Worcestershire Poetry Society Stanza to produce poems inspired by hall, which culminated in publication on the National Trust website and production of a poetry film.

The network also works alongside Worcestershire LitFest & Fringe (WLF) when coordinating its summer literary events.

Literature groups directly involved with DAN include:

Worcestershire Poetry Society Stanza – run by town poet Sarah Leavesley (pen name Sarah James) at [email protected] or on 07525 942625.

Individual authors directly involved in DAN include:

Sheryl Browne – romantic novelist and thriller writer (her seventh book published in 2015)

Maggie Doyle – former Worcestershire Poet Laureate and WLF Poet Emeritus

Sarah James – prize-winning poet, fiction writer and journalist. Also editor at V. Press.
