Droitwich ArtsFest enters third week

Following a successful opening day of dance, Droitwich arts festival continued with two music events and an open-air interactive art event last week.

On the 4th July Droitwich based full-time professional musician Keith Slater expertly delivered his 60s Celebration to a highly appreciative audience at the St Andrews Town Hotel. Then on Saturday 7th July, people were drawn to the interactive People’s Gallery placed in Gurney’s Lane. The day ended with an open-air music event in St Andrews Square shopping centre, given by award-winning band Mumbo-Jumbo, and Droitwich based Ollie Miles Band with lead singer Jack Gannon.

During the week, Emily Hastings of “Acting Up” led a Mime and Improvisation workshop on 11th July, and the participants had fun gaining an insight into the skills and mental attitude required for acting.

This Saturday, 14th July, is predominantly aimed at families and youngsters with free and low-cost events. The programme for the day includes art activities for families including salt patterns and the creation of a dragon to be paraded in the afternoon; face painting; two sketching walks (novices are welcome); a music showcase by Droitwich Spa High School; a talk by Katy Beinart about the “Saltways” and the Ring Project; and anyone with memories of the old Brine Baths are invited to relate their experiences. The day concludes with a Book Launch in Park’s Café at 7pm.

On Tuesday 17th July, three authors will perform “30-40-60” being fun and furious readings about Womanhood, in St Andrew’s Church at 7.30pm.
