DAN called in to help recognise local sports people

Droitwich Arts Network called in to help recognise local sports people. Simon Berry from the 4 Shires Festivals was delighted to invite DAN member to participate with the commissions to produce portraits of famous Droitwich Spa sports personalities as part of the Pavilion renovation programme.

DAN member, local artist Bob Addy took on the challenge and his first completed commission is of young boxer Siân O’Toole, who recently made it into the England Talent Programme squad. Her portrait was formally presented by Cllr Pam Davey on Saturday 5th March at the Pavilions Bar, where the picture was also hung – a boxing queen between two kings! Siân was delighted with her portrait.

Bob Addy says, ” The portrait of Siân took just over three weeks from preliminary drawings to finished painting. I very much enjoyed doing the painting as portraits are my favourite genre and I usually work from photographs as most people don’t have the time to pose. It was a pleasure to meet Siân, a lovely, pleasant young lady with a real talent. I’m looking forward to painting the next three portraits.”
